Get Online Better - Use Firefox
March 2nd, 2008 | by Rob |WHY? There are good ways to get to the internet, then there is the safer, faster, and more fun way.
Getting online is essential, fun, and the main reason we buy computers, right? At the beginning of the year 2008, 1.3 Billion people were online doing all kinds of things like checking email, paying bills, researching, or watching videos.
Just to make sure we’re on the same page here, the software that you use to get online is called a web browser.
The browser that most likely came with your computer and the one you probably use the most is Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE). It’s the one with the big blue “e” as it’s icon. In fact, a friend using my computer once said, “where’s the blue e?” when trying to get online.
If you are using IE, then at least make sure you have the latest version of it.
However, I want to encourage you to use a different browser. I strongly encourage you to download and use Mozilla’s Firefox instead. Here’s a few reasons why:
- Firefox will let you get online fast
- Firefox is safe
- Firefox is customizable
Yes, the latest version of Internet Explorer has made up a lot of ground in catching up to Firefox. For now, I encourage you to go ahead and Get Firefox.
The biggest reason I like Firefox is not only is it fast, but instead of opening new browser windows, I can open tabs inside one browser making a cleaner online experience. Firefox blocks almost all pop-up ads, warns me before any download attempt, and lets me know if I’ve gone to a suspicious website. Personally, one of the best features of Firefox are all the extra free add-ons I can get to upgrade my browser!
Over time I will show you even more great tips for using Firefox to improve your online experience. Before you go, check out this humorous, short “commercial” comparing the browsers Internet Explorer, Safari, and Netscape to Firefox.
What browser is your favorite and why?

If you don’t need the wide spectrum of plug-ins and are more interested in speed, try Opera. It loads pages up faster than IE of Firefox, or any oter browser I have tried.

Thanks to you I’ve been with Firefox for about 3 years or more.
I love it because of the add ons like the weather bar that runs at the bottom of my screen when I’m online and also
I love being able to set bookmark tabs — like my Homepage tab that includes my e-mail accounts, google reader, and projects tracker, or my Sermon Prep tab that includes Bible Gateway, several sites I use for ideas and illustrations, etc.

Has anyone else had a problem downloading Firefox using Microsoft 2007?

I use Firefox but it works better on a Mac, for me at least. There was a time when I wasn’t able to use Firefox and had to use Safari instead and I didn’t like it. I had gotten used to Firefox. IE - can’t stand using it.

When I get to set-up, It gives me an error as saying… error for opening file for writing
c:\programfiles\mozillafirefox\xpicleanup.exe and tells me to retry.
But that does nothing. I had google toolbar & everything worked but Firefox too. I had to remove the google toolbar because it was keeping something in my email from working.
Not totally sure its a MS2007 problem but Firefox worked when I had XP. And I assume MS wants me to only use IE.

I use FireFox for one reason: Adblock.
